Descriptive Writing (Fiction)

As I sat on a soft blue couch in the student lounge, I saw sunlight streaming through the open windows. I saw billions of dust particles floating around; softly and gently. They looked like golden fairies dancing in a subtle manner; gracefully and delicate at the same time. Instead of scanning the area, I relaxed on the couch and observed the surrounding through my ears. Words were being spoken by students that were hanging around; chirping happily about the places they have visited throughout the holidays such as America, Canada, Vietnam and so on. Ah, such luxurious life they do have. With my eyes still closed, I felt an invisible hand from days of old that rises up when warm meets cold and spreads like waves across the land that bends the trees and writes in sand that ran down from my neck to my spine; wrapping me with a cool and crisp blanket, leaving no room for a familiar touch so warm like a mother’s hug. As though the air conditioner knew I was cold, it gave a delighted chuckled following with a series of hiccups. I then took a deep breath, trying to clear my mind from all of the things I needed to do as well as trying my very hardest to ignore the joker of the air conditioner. Various scent of food aroused the gnawing of my stomach and I realized I was famished. I then opened my eyes and saw a couple of students picking through their food as they were talking. My stomach then decided to call out; craving for none other than spaghetti with meat balls. Not just any spaghetti but a spaghetti which is cooked into a perfect al dente so that it is still firm yet soft when you bite into it. The sauce with a perfect blend of spices that marry so well, you will feel an explosion of flavours in your mouth that tingles all of your senses. Last but not least, top it off with sprinklings of parmesan cheese that adds that extra little kick that makes you want to continue to eating without stopping, even if it’s to breathe. Ah, I miss my sister’s cooking so much.

A soft touch was placed upon my shoulder and I jumped, surprised by the person behind me as I did not expected that to come. My friend then smiled at my reaction and she then burst out laughing as she tried so hard to explain why through her series of laughter. Finally, when she calmed down, she then burst out laughing once again. I then laughed along and at that time, we were both instant of total helplessness; a brief moment of breathlessness and exhaustion with colors more vivid and everything sparkling as though everything has been renewed. Wiping off the tears that were formed in both my eyes, I saw my friend’s eyes were still laughing as water glittered in both her eyes.
